It will be open until fall 2020, when work will start to rebuild the old building. With the Olympics coming up, Tokyo is going through a major redevelopment stage but this project chooses to create an open space and not to build anything for the next few years. Outline Ginza Sony Park is an experimental, ever-changing park in the middle of Tokyo, holding playful experiential events and performances throughout the year with its unique partners. That decision alone makes this the most innovative design that you can see today. The park maintains the characteristic vertical structure of the old Sony building. Connecting to the subway concourse and Nishi-Ginza parking lot underground, the park is viewed as a three-dimensional structure with a below-ground space. It also houses stores that try a variety of initiatives. The viewers are challenged to rethink the definition of park and public space.。
